Still Waters at Widow's Point
Bayview Veterinary Clinic, Caldmere
Sterling Mace — the face of Channel 7 Coastal News for eleven years — was found dead in the large-animal wash stall behind Bayview Veterinary Clinic on Friday morning. The medical examiner's preliminary finding: drowning. The stall holds roughly eight inches of standing water when the drain plug is in. It was in.
Everyone has something to hide.
41. Only vet in Caldmere. Big, bearded, gentle. Universally liked. Came from a Vermont large-animal practice. There is a sadness he manages carefully — it surfaces late at night when the kennels are full.
24. Finishing biology at Bellwick. Competent, direct, world-weary. First-generation college student working three jobs. Manages the clinic's drug inventory more carefully than Sam does — and has noticed discrepancies.
The night shift belongs to Aggie. Twenty-eight years at St. Clair. She runs the floor with absolute authority and a dry humor that softens nothing.
