Wrong Light at Widow's Point
Widow's Point Lighthouse, Caldmere
MISSING PERSONS REPORT — CALDMERE POLICE DEPARTMENT Filing date: October 19, 2023 Status: RECLASSIFIED — suspicious death, investigation ongoing
Everyone has something to hide.

Thirty years tending Widow's Point. Earl was the only person present at the lighthouse on the evening of October 16th by his own account, and the only person with a key to the promontory gate. He told Caldmere PD that the lot was otherwise empty when he arrived — but a parking receipt from the Bellwick faculty lot places Dr. Achebe's car at Bellwick until 3:47 PM that day, leaving a narrow window for her to drive to Widow's Point and arrive before 6 PM. Earl's knowledge of the site's structural features — including the eastern railing — is unparalleled. He has become noticeably more reclusive since autumn 2023.

Felix manages every physical aspect of Curtain Call — sets, lights, scheduling, keys, and archives. He had a master key to the archive room and was present at the theatre during Dr. Achebe's entire research period. He was the person who reported the prompt book theft to the theatre's board in November 2023 — more than three weeks after it occurred. He told the law clinic he had been 'waiting to be sure' before escalating. His booking records show he requisitioned a cargo van from the theatre's rental account on October 14th, 2023, citing 'set transport.' The van was returned on October 17th with 147 additional miles on the odometer.

Daphne had been vocally opposed to Bellwick's claim on the prompt books since the dispute began — she had publicly argued at a 2022 board meeting that the collection was 'Curtain Call's soul, not a library acquisition.' She gave a voice coaching session at the theatre at 4 PM on October 16th, 2023, which ended at 5:30 PM. She claims she drove home directly afterward. Her address is on the east side of town, and Widow's Point is a nine-minute drive from the theatre. Her relationship with Dr. Achebe was tense — Achebe's field notes describe Daphne as 'hostile to the research process from day one.'

Callie served as Dr. Achebe's research assistant during the Curtain Call embed. She had physical access to the archive room alongside Dr. Achebe and had catalogued eleven of the seventeen prompt books personally. She was the one who submitted Dr. Achebe's faculty notes to the department inbox on October 16th — she told the law clinic that Dr. Achebe had emailed them to her that afternoon 'for safekeeping' before going to Widow's Point. She has no credible explanation for why she did not flag the notes as urgent after Dr. Achebe disappeared. She recently accepted a position at a private rare manuscript dealer in New York.

Derek is the person named in Dr. Achebe's field notes as having unauthorized access to the archive room. Her notes document a confrontation with him on the afternoon of October 16th, during which he told her she was 'cataloguing things that belong to people who know what they're worth.' Derek has a key to the theatre's rear loading dock and prop room, which shares a wall with the archive. He told the law clinic he left the theatre at 10:30 PM on October 16th, drove directly home to the south side of town — in the opposite direction from Widow's Point. Bellwick's structural engineering survey, dated September 4th, 2023, recorded the eastern promontory railing as sound. Derek had contracted to repair and repaint outdoor structures at Widow's Point for the historical preservation society in September 2023, finishing on September 28th — three weeks before Dr. Achebe's death.
